Overview
SnapWebP is a macOS menu bar application that allows users to capture screenshots and save them in WebP or PNG format. This Privacy Policy explains what information SnapWebP collects (or does not collect), how it operates, and what rights you have as a user.
Your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. SnapWebP is designed with a privacy-first approach: all operations are performed entirely on your device.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
SnapWebP does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data. Specifically:
- No screenshots or image content are ever sent to any server or third party.
- No usage statistics, analytics, or telemetry data are collected.
- No personal identifiers (name, email, Apple ID, device ID) are collected or stored.
- No crash reports are sent automatically.
- No advertising identifiers or tracking technologies are used.
- No cookies or web beacons of any kind are used.
2. How SnapWebP Works
SnapWebP operates entirely on your local Mac device. When you use the app:
- Screen capture is performed using Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit framework, which requires your explicit permission via macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
- All image processing (WebP compression, PNG export, annotation) is performed locally on your device using Apple’s native frameworks (ImageIO, CoreGraphics).
- Captured screenshots are saved directly to your chosen folder on your local disk (default: ~/Desktop/Screenshots/).
- The app has no internet connection and makes no network requests of any kind.
3. Screen Recording Permission
SnapWebP requires the Screen Recording permission granted by macOS to capture your screen. This permission is controlled entirely by macOS and follows Apple’s privacy guidelines.
This permission allows the app to:
- Capture the selected screen area you define with your mouse.
This permission does not allow the app to:
- Record your screen continuously or in the background without your explicit action.
- Access the content of other applications passively.
- Send any captured image off your device.
You can revoke this permission at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
4. Local Storage
SnapWebP may store minimal preferences locally on your device, such as your preferred export format (WebP or PNG) and output folder location. This information is stored in the standard macOS user preferences system (UserDefaults) and never leaves your device.
5. Third-Party Services
SnapWebP does not integrate with, communicate with, or share data with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or cloud services.
The only third-party dependency is the KeyboardShortcuts open-source library (MIT License) used for global hotkey support. This library operates entirely on-device and collects no data.
6. Children’s Privacy
SnapWebP does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. As the app collects no personal data from any user, it is safe for use by all age groups.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated ‘Last Updated’ date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of SnapWebP after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
As SnapWebP collects no personal data, changes to this policy will generally reflect improvements in clarity or changes required by applicable law.
8. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Because SnapWebP does not collect any personal data, there is no data to access, correct, delete, or port. You have full control over all data produced by the app, as it resides solely on your local device.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA. Since we hold no personal data about you, these rights are automatically satisfied.
